The Hollywood Walk of Fame Project

About the Process | How To Contribute | HWOF Project Patrons

(Not yet an actual star, clearly.
And not shown to scale. *g*)

On a level of pop culture recognition, few honors are as well-known as Hollywood's Walk of Fame, the star-shaped plaques that grace the pavement on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Every year a group of celebrities are honored with their own piece of this iconic monument.

How often does a performer burst onto the entertainment scene with such a dynamic range of talents - acting, singing, dancing - that he harkens back to the glory days of old Hollywood? If you've been visiting JL, we figure chances are good that you won't have trouble answering that question. :-)

The staff of Jackman's Landing is pleased to announce that you are cordially invited to help make Hugh Jackman a part of pop culture history by raising money to honor him with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

Wait a moment, you're saying - raise money? It actually costs to get a star on the Walk of Fame? Yes it does; let us explain how it works. The Walk of Fame is overseen by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The process is frequently initiated by the performer's management or reps; however, anyone can submit an application to the Chamber nominating a celeb for the honor with the approval of the celeb's representation. Recently, it has become increasingly common for fan groups to sponsor Walk of Fame stars.

During the course of a given year, the Chamber accepts nominations; the selection committee announces their picks in June for the following year's inductees. An average of 20 nominees are selected yearly to receive a star in one of five categories (film, television, recording, stage or radio), from a typical 200 or more applications received. Once the celebrity is selected, payment of $25,000 is required to seal the deal. (Yes, the amount was recently increased by the Chamber).  This fee is used by the Chamber to pay for the plaque as well as the cost of the induction ceremony.

Here is where our work begins: JL has been granted permission from Hugh Jackman's representatives to submit the application, so now we must begin raising the funds. (The nomination paperwork has already been completed and submitted to the Chamber of Commerce. He has been nominated for the category of film.) After discussion amongst our staff about the most practical way of raising the capital - with advice from the IRS and an accountant - Pat has established a savings account into which she'll place all funds received from Hugh's fans. There the money will remain until the Chamber selects HJ as one of their inductees. Any interest earned on your contributions, i.e. anything over and above the $25,000 fee, will be donated to JL's charity of choice, The Lighthouse Foundation in Australia.

Contributions of any amount will be helpful.  We'll update every two weeks to let you know how the fund is growing.

Step 1 - There are two ways to contribute:

Option A:

Click on the button below to be taken to PayPal:

IMPORTANT: We can only accept transfers from bank accounts or PayPal balances. You must be a verified PayPal member to use this option.

Also, it's important to remember that PayPal assesses a 2.9% fee on every transaction; if you choose to use PayPal and wish to ensure that a specific amount is received for the fund, please add an additional 2.9% of your total to the final amount. (The exact amount assessed will vary slightly, but the difference will be negligible and much closer to your desired contribution.)

Option B:

Cashiers checks, money orders or international money orders should be made out to the Hugh Jackman Hollywood Walk of Fame Fund and sent to the following address:

Hugh Jackman Hollywood
Walk of Fame Fund
PO Box 1284
Loveland, Colorado 80539-1284

USA

We regret that we cannot accept personal checks for this project. Money orders can be obtained from a variety of vendors including your local post office, convenience store or supermarket. (Banks, of course, sell money orders but typically charge higher fees.) If you are sending an international money order: please make sure that the order is drafted in U.S. dollars and not your own country's currency.

Step 2 - Please complete and send this donation form with your contribution. This will decrease the bookkeeping on our end as well as ensure that you receive the sort of recognition you prefer. If you are mailing in a money order or cashier's check, you can download this PDF version of the form and send it with your payment.

We will maintain and post a list of project contributors on the site. Please remember to indicate your name preference on the donation form, particularly if you wish to remain anonymous. While names will be posted, individual contributions will remain private. Any paperwork received when you purchase a money order, have a cashiers check drawn by your financial institution, or email received from PayPal confirming a transaction serves as your receipt. Please feel free to email Pat at admin@jackmanslanding.com if you have additional questions about this process.

Is it possible that Hugh won't make the cut right away? - Yes, that's possible. With so few stars being inducted every year, it's a bit of a crap-shoot. The application is effective for two years. If after that time Hugh has still not been selected, we will file a new application or send a letter requesting that the old one be reinstated. Rest assured, JL will keep trying until Hugh has his star. We hope you're as excited as we are by this project. Please join us in helping Hugh achieve his piece of Hollywood history!
